Homer, Kenai, and Petersburg Papers Endorse Lisa Murkowski

“Murkowski is the person with the best chance of getting things done for Alaska”

Anchorage, AK – Several more newspapers have endorsed Senator Lisa Murkowski’s (R-Alaska) write-in candidacy for the U.S. Senate. Today, the Peninsula Clarion, Homer News and Petersburg Pilot endorsed Senator Lisa Murkowski.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of every major newspaper in Alaska. The momentum of my write-in campaign continues to build and energize voters. Alaska will make history this Tuesday,” said Lisa Murkowski.

Homer News: For U.S. Senate: Vote Lisa Murkowski

There’s someone for everyone in this race, but Murkowski is the person with the best chance of getting things done for Alaska. She wouldn’t be running as a write-in candidate now if she didn’t think it was in the best interest of Alaska and Alaskans. Her efforts should be applauded.

While some changes are needed in the nation’s capital, the most effective way to make those changes happen are by working within the system, not discarding the system altogether. Alaskans need people in office — including the U.S. Senate — who will work with others. Joe Miller’s extreme views will be a distraction to getting things done, and who can trust a politician who would allow a reporter to be handcuffed at a public meeting? Democrat Scott McAdams has some good Alaska experience; we hope this isn’t the last we see of him.

No one likes how Murkowski first gained her U.S. Senate seat, but she has proven herself to be a fighter for Alaska. Alaska still needs her.

Petersburg Pilot Editorial: Vote for Murkowski

Following the primary election we suspected we would vote for a democratic candidate in November. We couldn’t fathom how Republican candidate Joe Miller would benefit Alaska since he was more concerned about changing the federal landscape rather than working for Alaskan causes.

Following Senator Lisa Murkowski’s announcement to run as a write-in, we along with others, doubted she could take the Senate seat from Miller or her Democratic opponent Scott McAdams.

In recent weeks our mind has been changed.

There are no simple solutions for what ails Washington, D.C. politics. There are no grey areas anymore. It’s either black or white; my way or the highway and the oft heard phrase, “We have the votes and we’ll pass it.”

What happened to the art of compromise? What about disagreeing without being disagreeable?

Murkowski’s opponents noted that Murkowski had voted against her party over 300 times. Why is that bad? The Republican Party doesn’t always write pristine legislation that helps Alaskans. We like that she demanded that her party-line colleagues not just blast health care reform, but offer better alternatives to the legislation.

She may have been appointed to her Senate seat, but she has run and kept that seat on her own accord. As a Republican moderate, she has shown she can work with Democrats for the benefit of Alaska and the country.

This is not the time for Alaskans to change government and hope someone else can do a better job.

Lisa Murkowski is the best choice for Alaska. We urge you to write in her name on the ballot, and remember to fill-in the bubble.
